Drywall contractors are specialists. They can bring in a crew, nail up the drywall, tape and then mud it, then get you all set for painting in no time at all. Mud is a type of plaster that's used to even out the edges between the drywall and the tape. It's usually applied several times then sanded in between. Drywall contractors are crucial for soundness and longevity of your walls. Check on their licenses and make sure any contracts are to your liking. If your main contractor is hiring these subs, then be sure he has used them before and that those jobs were done to the contractor likes. Drywall is a super home construction project. Before drywall they often used lath and plaster. With today's pieces of drywall (also called sheetrock) you can repair holes and make your walls look new again. If you want to refresh any existing walls, you can also apply a textured finish.
