Fasteners -- What Kind Do You Want?

Thank goodness for fasteners, or else we couldn't build anything. In the construction of your home, there are many different types of fasteners that no doubt were used. The commonest are probably screws and nails. Back in the day, a peg on one piece of wood was tapped into a hole in another, and two pieces were joined that way. Perhaps leather strips were used to bind two objects together. This has been used on primitive stone axles and simple housing structures. In today's homes, nails, screws, glue, staples, bolts and rivets are the commonest types of fasteners. There are probably thousands of sizes of nails and screws alone. One timesaver is the invention of nail guns which greatly speed up nailing and also electric screwdrivers and drills which help with screws. The latter are great because they are removable, unlike most nails (without destroying the nail that is). Always wear eye protection if you are nailing because things can ricochet and you want to be safe.
