Faux Finishing -- Make Your Dungeon Look Like a Villa

Faux finishing is fantastic because it can create many kinds of fantasy on your walls. Sponging and dry brushing are two techniques for applying a faux finish. Stenciling is another. Plaster is often used to create a texture and brick and stone may create the illusion of a real castle or brick wall. These "fake" bricks and stones can be purchased if you'd like to redo your fireplace or another room like the den. If you plan on using them around your fireplace, check for heat resistance first. Some products are made specifically for the hearth and surrounding area. Plaster and paint are the two most used products for faux finishes and the different combination of finished looks can be limitless. An antique look can be sponged on your walls by applying a base coat then sponging on two different shades, then sponging them into each other so they merge softly.
