Garages are often used for many other things other than your vehicles! They can be unfinished or completely finished, even down to a nice floor surface. Many homeowners like to have a workspace in the garage for their tools. Sometimes the washer and dryer are in the garage. If the ceiling of the garage is open rafters, then you can store wood pieces up there, or boxes. A basement is quite often changed into a family room, den, or extra bedroom. Your basement may have started out as mere cement block walls and a cement floor. It can be finished off with paint, carpeting, lighting and furniture. Making the basement look like the rest of the house, will increase the value and usability of your home. If you are purchasing a few pieces of furniture, make sure you can get it down the stairs, by measuring all angles. If your basement is bare-walled, then be sure and get advice about vapor barriers because you don't want mold to grow if you finish off the walls.
